GRIFTER’s Gambit 1.0, LocaleS3 at Harvestworks, Governor's Island, NY, 2023
GRIFTER’s Gambit, playing through the sonic experience of LocaleS3 employing the NOUS Sonic system, is a 13-minute chorale composition created from studio recordings of two vocalists directed to sing Jaffé’s 16-page libretto.
The libretto satirizes human foibles that bring us repeatedly into conflict, bearing witness to archetypes, contemporary & historical references to the human condition. Vocalists sing the text, periodically parodying recognizable sinister show tunes known for their wit, such as “Hey Big Spender” and “Money, that’s What I Want.”
LocaleS3is a collection of compositions by Michelle Jaffé, Phil Edelstein & David Reeder.
3D virtual sound shapes form the sonic field of discovery.
Using NOUS Sonic headphones and an app that employs Ultra Wide Band (UWB) triangulation technology visitors activate different sections of the composition, as they walk through 3D Virtual Sound Shapes. Each individual experiences the sound uniquely based on their movement through the space. By using smartphones, visitors actively participate in the experience, playing the room as an instrument.
